Next weekend is the annual PhilFest in Tampa. Replicating a typical Filipino fiesta, PhilFest showcases various facets of Filipino culture, art, music and food. The event will run from Friday to Sunday with food and entertainment throughout. Saturday will be the big day with lots of performers and the annual Philfest Revolution Dance Competition (USF’s very own Association of Filipino Students will be competing this year-Go Bulls!).

AFS dancing at PhilFest 2009.

One of my favorite dances to watch is Tinikling. Here is a video from 2009.

Several Filipino dishes will be sold at the event (a Filipino food lovers paradise) and some examples include la paz batchoy, pancit molo, bacolod chicken, pancit palabok, pork barbeque, halo-halo, baked pastries, and much more. For a full list of vendors click here. Filipino food is scarce in Tampa so don’t miss this opportunity to try some Filipino dishes.
