Mema’s Alaskan Tacos returning to Ybor City

Mema’s Alaskan Tacos is set to reopen in Ybor City, Tampa, at 1903 N19th St., after closing over a decade ago. The original closure was attributed to economic challenges. Known for deep-fried tacos, Mema’s is fondly remembered by locals and fans eagerly anticipate its return.

TAMPA, FL – Over a decade after closing, Mema’s Alaskan Tacos is planning to return to Ybor City. The new location will be at 1903 N19th St., according to Creative Loafing.

The prior iteration was a casualty of the 2008 financial crisis which hit Tampa hard. A last message to customers in 2011 previously read “To all of our loyal customers…I want to thank you for the good times. Our closing is an unfortunate result of many things, most of all the deadstill economy and rising prices. Rather than sacrifice quality and service, the decision was to close the doors. So, thank you Tampa, for everything…” The restaurant discussed returning, but never did.

What are Alaskan Tacos? They are tacos that are deep fried and the best food you’ll ever have at night after a night of drinking. I think about Mema’s every once in awhile…what a spot it was. I am glad they are coming back. Looking forward to more news soon on this!
