YBOR CITY, FL – More closures are coming to Ybor City as both new and old business owners experience closures, gutting the neighborhood. First Ten Rooms shuttered after only 3 months of operation (opened April 27). The concept was exactly the kind of idea that should have succeeded in what is being sold as an up-and-coming neighborhood and its closure puts an ominous cloud over Ybor City after numerous exits this year.

Meanwhile Big Easy is being sold off to Fat Tuesday, which is disappointing for a concept that was doing things right. The vibes and food/drinks were really great. Fat Tuesday has tried to make an imprint on Tampa before and made a run at Ybor in 1994. Time will tell how this run goes, but things are not looking good for Ybor and I would be thinking twice if I was an entrepreneur.

Recently, Eden also shuttered in downtown Tampa which makes it seem like the closures are spreading from Ybor City into Water Street and downtown.

Is this part of the plan for Ybor or it simply not a sustainable investment anymore?

Ybor would still be thriving if Mayor Iorio wasn’t so stupid and ended the weekend street closures, thousands of people every weekend of all ages enjoyed the restaurants and bars and Ybor was alive.

instead of focusing on the closures, maybe focus on the places still operating and doing it right. The narrative and article title are exactly what’s wrong. All of the negative only add fuel to the fire and ill picture of Ybor. Maybe try writing positive pieces and help a community struggling because of negative articles like this.

just a little food for thought
