ORLANDO, FL – A man died on Wednesday at Universal Orlando Resort’s Epic Universe theme park in Orlando, Florida, after becoming unresponsive on the Stardust Racers roller coaster. The man has been identified as 32-year-old Kevin Rodriguez Zavala and he was a guest visiting the theme park for the day, according to WESH news.

The Orange County Medical Examiner said “multiple blunt impact injuries” were the cause of death and ruled the incident as an accident. Universal Orlando confirmed Stardust Racers will remain closed during an investigation by authorities.

The theme park released a statement about the tragic death:

Universal is cooperating with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office following a tragic event involving a guest at Epic Universe on Wednesday night. The guest became unresponsive after riding Stardust Racers and was transported to the hospital, where the guest later died. We are devastated by this event and extend our sincerest sympathies to the guest’s loved ones. We are fully committed to cooperating with this ongoing investigation. The attraction remains closed.

Epic Universe opened to the public on May 22, 2025 and is the newest theme park from Universal Orlando Resort, drawing thousands daily. According to the official Universal Orlando website, Stardust Racers is a “dual-launch coaster” that reaches “speeds up to 62 mph.” The ride features “heights up to 133 feet along 5,000 feet of track.”
