SAN FRANCISCO, CA – Chef Lijun Han of San Francisco Chinatown’s Z&Y Restaurant is opening Z&Y Peking Duck in early 2024. The restaurant will offer contemporary Beijing-inspired dim sum small plates in a newly renovated building on Jackson Street near the original restaurant.

“Opening a second restaurant concept here in Chinatown has been a dream of mine for years and I am eager to welcome my loyal patrons and new diners to experience Z&Y Peking Duck,” said Chef Han.

“We will be the only restaurant in San Francisco to prepare and serve authentic Beijing-style Peking Duck, a multi-part, days-long process that has been perfected over generations. I’m proud to introduce the method and completed dish to the city.”

Z&Y Peking Duck celebrates centuries-old Beijing Peking Duck that is an icon of Chinese culinary culture. Preparation involves a laborious process that begins with an organic, fresh, high-quality duck that is then par-boiled and dried for 24 hours. The duck is brushed with a light layer of honey to ensure the skin is exceptionally crispy, tasty, and slightly sweet before being roasted to perfection in special, single-purpose roasting ovens.

The Z&Y roasted duck will be available to order at a special pricing for limited time only in honor of the opening with options of whole ($69) or half ($40) duck, sliced and served in the traditional style or elevated with caviar ($158), along with crisp julienned cucumbers and scallions, house-made Hoisin sauce, and delicate flour wraps. Menu dishes are meant to be shared family-style and include a variety of dim sum such as savory potstickers, hearty skewers, crispy egg rolls, and mouth-watering buns.

Other dishes on the menu include Stir-Fried Crab with House Spicy Sauce, Clay Pot Braised Lamb Ribs, Szechuan Twice-Cooked Pork with Sauteed Cabbage and Leek, and more.

Han attended a top culinary school in Beijing, where he specialized in Szechuan food and culture, before moving to the United States in 2000 to serve as executive chef at the Chinese Consulate in San Francisco. Han opened Z&Y Restaurant in 2008, which is a popular destination for Szechuan dishes with Chef’s signature touches, including his special spicy sauce. In 2012, his culinary talents earned Z&Y a Michelin Bib Gourmand ranking and has retained that status every year since.

Z&Y Peking Duck is located at 606 Jackson Street near Kearny St. and is in soft opening from now onwards, with grand opening planned for early 2024.  The restaurant is open Thursday through Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and 4:30 to 9:30 p.m. Reservations are encouraged and can be booked online via www.zandypekingduck.com or by calling 415-986-1899.
