ORLANDO, FL – I am in the middle of reading the book Disney Adults by AJ Wolfe for a review. As part of my review, I’ve been analyzing and trying to understand this movement of people who associate happiness with fireworks, cartoons, and Mickey Mouse. The book is about the adults who live, breathe, and think Disney every day from an author who has personally lived that experience and built an entire career off of it.
“Disney Adults,” as they are known, are a major powerhouse of spending for Disney and several of them are now boycotting the company over a recent suspension of comedian Jimmy Kimmel on ABC, according to a recent piece by Glamour: The Jimmy Kimmel and Disney Drama Has Some Superfans Dumping the Mouse. This is all too familiar to me.
It seems the company has found itself trapped yet again in this place. One of the first mentions of a boycott over the suspension of Jimmy Kimmel was made by 50501: The People’s Movement. You have probably heard of them as the people behind the “No King’s Day” protests. That group is currently preparing for another nationwide protest in October 2025.

Several celebrities joined the calls for a boycott including actors with Marvel and there are also reports that Disney+ and Hulu had website interruptions due to the people canceling their subscriptions. Reporters are documenting a spike in searches as well for people looking to cancel their accounts.
I covered the news extensively when Disney was battling Florida Governor Ron DeSantis during the “Don’t Say Gay” law controversies. The corporation was trapped in the heated politics of the pandemic and the ambition of a presidential hopeful.
That saga has closed with neither side coming out on top as DeSantis is still governor (not President of the United States) and Disney lost the region it completely controlled near the theme park (but has regained some power through negotiations). Florida residents also lost hundreds of jobs and a $1 billion economic impact as a consequence of those battles.
Whether this latest controversy has any impact on sales at Disney theme parks who is one of Florida’s largest employers and an economic driver for tourism? Time will tell.
