SAN FRANCISCO, CA – This fall, acclaimed chef and restaurateur Michael Mina and The MINA Group will unveil a major opening in San Francisco: Bourbon Steak San Francisco, a bold new expression of Chef Mina’s beloved steakhouse concept reimagined with modern flair and elevated takes on American classics.

Adjacent, The Eighth Rule, a bourbon-driven bar developed by two-time MVP and four-time NBA champion and entrepreneur Stephen Curry, will also open in October 2025 inside The Westin St. Francis in Union Square, marking a new destination in the city.

The Eighth Rule is Curry’s first foray into hospitality. It is his dream realized to open a space where people can come and enjoy spirits and libations of the highest level. Named for the seven official rules of bourbon production, The Eighth Rule invites guests to define their own “rule” on how and why they gather over a glass.

Designed as an intimate space with limited seating, the bar will feature a curated selection of spirits as well as craft cocktails served in an atmosphere centered on connection. The MINA Group will collaborate with Curry to bring his vision to life, running the day-to-day operations.

“To me, there’s nothing better than getting together with those you love over a glass of bourbon. That’s where the magic happens,” said Curry. “I’ve always dreamt of creating my own little haven to bring people together, and now we have the perfect location. I cannot wait for people to come and see what we have in store.”

Bourbon Steak San Francisco will debut alongside Curry’s bar, presenting the next generation of Chef Mina’s acclaimed steakhouse brand. The menu will highlight seasonal California ingredients, refined seafood offerings, and signature tableside presentations that have become a MINA Group hallmark. The central bar, Bourbon Lounge, will serve as a focal point of the restaurant, inviting guests to start their night or linger longer, with an ongoing calendar of live music and entertainment activations. Bourbon Lounge serves as the ultimate setting for those waiting to snag one of the coveted 40 seats at The Eighth Rule.

“I’ll never forget the first time I came to San Francisco as a child,” said Mina. “It was the first time I saw diversity and numerous cultures coming together in one vibrant setting. I dreamt of living here one day, and I am beyond blessed to have defined my career as a chef and launched my company in the city that means so much to me. The Westin St. Francis especially holds significance as my first restaurant to receive Michelin Stars, Michael Mina, was here. As I have reimagined Bourbon Steak over the years, I believed that this historic landmark would be the perfect location, and I can’t wait for people to get a look at what we’ve created. I don’t say this lightly, but it is one of the most beautiful restaurants I’ve ever built. Opening alongside Stephen is the icing on the cake.”

We believe in San Francisco, and we are committed to continuing to provide spaces where people can come and eat, drink, celebrate, and feel welcome in one of the best cities in the world.

San Francisco has always been central to Chef Mina’s story. Born in Cairo and raised in Washington state, Chef Mina began his career in New York under Charlie Palmer, but it was in San Francisco where his name became synonymous with fine dining.

In 2004, he opened Michael Mina inside The Westin St. Francis, earning two Michelin stars the first year Michelin had come to San Francisco. Nearly two decades later, Bourbon Steak San Francisco brings him back to Union Square, reaffirming his passion for the city’s dining culture. Positions are now open to apply to work at Bourbon Steak, which is creating around 150 new high quality hospitality roles in the city with fair pay and benefits.

The excitement of the concept is shared by San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie who has been working to revitalize the city. Lurie shares: “San Francisco is seeing real momentum, and the opening of Bourbon Steak and The Eighth Rule in Union Square will contribute to our downtown comeback and add to our city’s vibrant food scene. At City Hall, we are creating the conditions for businesses to succeed—and attracting businesses downtown is key to San Francisco’s economic recovery. Stephen Curry and Michael Mina have been champions of our city, and I am so excited that they are continuing to double down on our comeback.”
