TAMPA, FL – Tampa Bay Sun FC will compete for the inaugural USL Super League championship title in Tampa at Riveront Stadium after defeating Dallas Trinity FC 2-1 in a historic match at Riverfront Stadium in Downtown Tampa this past weekend.
The Sun held firm, and after Tash Flint was put on the turf by a Dallas foul in front of the goal, Flint faced off against goalkeeper Madison White for a penalty kick. Flint fired the shot to the left, out of White’s reach and into the net, tying the game 1-1. In the second half, Tampa Bay stayed on the attack. In the 59th minute, Flint touched a pass to Carlee Giammona. Dallas’ goalkeeper came forward out of the net and Giammona capitalized, lobbing the ball over the head of White and into the goal, pushing the Sun into the lead 2-1.
The Sun will compete in the USL Super League Final on Saturday, June 14. With the new league in its inaugural season, this is also its first-ever championship final. Tickets for the championship game are being sold at TampaBaySunFC.com.
