TAMPA, FL – Bonchon, one of the most popular Korean Fried Chicken concepts, has opened up in Tampa at 2320 East Fletcher Ave. The concept has operated in other parts of Florida for a few years. Choosing the University of South Florida part of town shows a focus on college students for the chain. Bonchon was originally founded by Junduk Seo. in Busan, South Korea, in 2002. The mission of the concept is “to share the joy of Korean food around the world.”

The Korean Fried Chicken at Bonchon is hand-battered, double fried and hand brushed. Options include wings, drumsticks, strips, boneless, and more. Signature sauces are soy garlic and spicy. The menu also includes assorted Korean food, such as bulgogi, japchae, tteokbokki, and more.

2024 has been a successful year for the franchise with new stores beating the previous year. More than 40 locations were signed in 2023 with 13 new franchise partners.

“Chicken restaurants are increasingly prevalent, but our franchise partners understand the Bonchon difference and want to grow with us,” said Amanda Millikan, senior vice president of development at Bonchon. “Many of our new franchise partners start as rabid fans of the food and choose Bonchon for our flexible formats, unique menu, and trendy Korean flavors.”

One franchisee shares: “What really sets Bonchon apart from other brands is their organized approach blending modern technology and proven processes.”

Bonchon anticipates growing from 145 to 500 U.S. locations and 1,000 locations worldwide in the next five years and now Tampa is part of that story.
