I visited a cat cafe when I was in living in Seoul, but my visit to Tokyo was the first time I stopped at a pig cafe. It was giving Babe vibes for sure. mipig cafe is a micro pig house throughout Japan with currently nine locations. The concept of a “micro pig’s house” is a place where all micro pigs from baby ones to adult ones friendly live together.

The one we stopped at is in Harajuku just off Takeshita Street. During our visit the entry fee was 660 yen and the cost for 30 minutes 1100 yen, which comes up to around $15-16 per person (maybe a little less depending on conversion).

The pigs seem to be well treated and the staff was professional and very cognizant of cleanliness. You wash your hands before you enter the cafe, take your shoes off, and attest that you have not recently been exposed to any illnesses. Masks were required during our visit since it was currently still required by Japan during our visit.

Tables have wipes to clean yourself and there are blankets you can use so that the pigs don’t actually get on your clothes. The time limit is short, only about 30 minutes and since we came on the last shift it – they closed early. It was still long enough to spend some time with the pigs and pet them. We did not try the drinks so I cannot comment on that.
When petting the pigs, I was surprised how tough their fur is…I always imagined it would be soft, but actually they feel sort of like bristles on a brush. The pigs don’t sit still for long either. Freely roaming the room. The staff gives you some food to entice the pigs toward you, just like a cat cafe.
Overall, it was a fun experience and I think it would be worth doing at least once.
