Pollo Tropical is joining forces with World Central Kitchen for Bahamas relief. Pollo Tropical is pledging “a dollar donation for every Pollo Tropical Original Family Meal purchased” at any of the 140 company-owned locations from September 15th through October 6th to the Bahamas recovery effort.
“Florida was spared from the devastation of Hurricane Dorian, but our friends in the Bahamas were not. Our Pollo Tropical family is committed to helping those affected by providing Chef José Andres with funds needed to help feed the families affected by the storm.” said Richard Stockinger, Chief Executive Officer and President of Fiesta Restaurant Group, parent company of Pollo Tropical.
World Central Kitchen (WCK) is a not-for-profit non-governmental organization devoted to providing meals in the wake of natural disasters. Founded in 2010 by Chef José Andrés, the organization’s method of operations is to be a first responder and then to collaborate and galvanize solutions with local chefs to solve the problem of hunger, immediately following a disaster. Chef Jose Andres will open a new Spanish restaurant called Jaleo in Orlando at Disney Springs later this year right next to House of Blues and Bongo’s. I couldn’t be more excited. Jaleo has operated 5 locations in Vegas, Washington D.C., and Mexico City. His restaurant group is called ThinkFoodGroup.
The menu will have Spanish tapas and of course feature Paella. Some menu items featured at other Jaleo locations include Gambas, Patatas Bravas, Jamón serrano Fermín, and Chorizo ibérico de bellota Fermín.
I have been following Chef Andres since he helped the people of Puerto Rico last year during the horrific Hurricane Irma catastrophe. His non-profit, World Central Kitchen, served over 3.5 million quality meals to the people of Puerto Rico while FEMA was dealing with issues providing food and water supplies as well as contractor issues.
Chef Jose Andres was named 2018 Humanitarian of the Year by the James Beard Foundation for his efforts in Puerto Rico. World Food Kitchen is now working with farmer’s in Puerto Rico to help “build resiliency” since Puerto Rico currently imports about 85% of their food.

Now that Wine Bar George is serving a variety of wines to the masses, it only makes sense for someone to represent authentic Spanish food and wine together at Disney Springs. Once Jaleo opens, I’ll be there to support Chef Jose Andres. He has done a huge service to the people.
Celebrate World Food Day 2017 on Friday, October 13th. Fundraisers will be held worldwide for Puerto Rico relief with World Central Kitchen. World Central Kitchen is a “group of chefs creating smart solutions to hunger and poverty”. It is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization.
Restaurants and Chefs are coming together for a cause with a number of them pledging to donate 10% of their proceeds on this day to World Central Kitchen.
Chef Jose Andres and his team are doing great work in Puerto Rico helping feed the hungry who have lost access to food due to Hurricane Maria. His efforts continue and this day of fundraising is meant to unite chefs for this cause.
Ciccio Restaurant Group in Tampa Bay has pledged to participate. Their restaurant group operated Ciccio / Water, Daily Eats, Ciccio Cali, Green Lemon, Better Byrd, The Lodge, and Fresh Kitchen. I’ll keep you updated on any restaurants I find in the area participating and also update on social media as well.
It’s not too late to be a part of this effort. Restaurant signups are still being accepted and can be done at: http://www.worldcentralkitchen.org/restaurant-sign-up-wfd/
